När vintermörkret kring oss står
When the dark of winter is all around

A meditation for Christmas, to shed some light in the darkest time of the year.

Many of the songs sung around Christmas that people in the Northern countries see as their own actually originate in the great Lutheran traditions of Germany. We can therefore find variations on the same themes by great masters like Bach and Buxtehude, but also local versions in traditional styles. This program presents a quiet kaleidoscope of traditional songs, hymns, variations, and arrangements by Bach and Buxtehude on some of the most beloved seasonal psalms in northern Europe.

Arranged to fit a 4-part viol consort together with soprano soloist, the program presents a new view of this old Scandinavian tradition of Christmas psalms.
