La Viola Galante

An odd program of transcriptions for bass viol and pianoforte of music from the mid- to late 18th century. Two original transcriptions take up most of the program: a concerto for oboe d'amore by Johan Helmich Roman has been turned into a trio concertante for bass viol and keyboard; the famous sonata for piano and violin in G-Major (K379) by Mozart is given a new identity as a gamba sonata. Lastly, we present an unusual transcription of the viola da gamba concerto i a-minor by Johann Gottlieb Graun, rearranged for viol and piano by a German musicologist in 1900.
