Harmonia Artificiosa

The collection of seven partitas for two violins or violas d'amore and continuo Harmonia Artificioso-Ariosa, composed by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber in 1696, is here given a new life in arrangements for two bass viols.

One of the high points of the Stylush Phantasticus repertoire of south Germany and Moravia in the late 17th century, these partitas are full of explosive virtuose passages, beautifully melancholic melody variations and quick dances. A musical fireworks display reimagined as bass viol duets, this program presents a selection of 4 out of the 7 partitas, with their preludes, dance suites and variation pieces.
